Select Granite or Marble
Slabs. You can look to your heart's content (and your mind's
confusion) early on, but you can't select your countertop slabs
until a week to 10 days before your countertops are to be
installed. That happens right after the cabinets are put in
place and just before the appliances are installed.
Kermit will help you with the detail and review the number of
and size of slabs you need to select. With
so many slabs to choose from, this can be overwhelming. A restocking charge is applied if
you change your mind after you have selected your slabs.
Install Cabinets and Plumbing. Another tip we discovered
the hard way: If your sinks and appliances arrive early - they
must be sitting in the home before the cabinetry is installed -
do not assume you received what you ordered, even if it says so
on the box! Be there when your
contractor opens the boxes - upon their arrival - to make sure
you both agree you received the right items.
This is also a critical time, when staying on top of your
projected installation schedule is important. Wiring has to be
done before cabinets are installed. This means phone wiring too,
if you have a kitchen phone jack that will be surrounded by
granite.

Kermit Lennick - Your General Contractor
Sometimes the homeowner decides
they can serve as the project coordinator - and handle all the
mentioned detail - Don't - Instead
leave this task to the General Contractor - Kermit will oversee
the different suppliers to be sure the schedule is maintained.
Otherwise the lack of coordination can create unfortunate
confusion, delays and errors.
Everything
needs to be in writing. It takes extra time, but the results are
worth it. Keep in mind that remodeling requires a lot of vendors
to dovetail into the same groove. You will always have a few
rough edges to smooth out. Maintaining a sense of humor and an
aggressive position will see you through.
The primary merit test of any
supplier is in how they handle their deliverable. Again, with 30 years in the business, Kermit Lennick of WCI&L is here to make
your remodeling a wonderful experience!
Enjoy your new home!
