Flooring Installation.
Be sure you order all floor coverings at least six to eight
weeks before you expect to have them installed. Then stay in
contact to double check the arrival date. (You can't move in
without floor coverings.) If you are installing new cabinets,
refinishing a fireplace or adding built-ins, you will need the
floors done.
One thing we learned too late: If you are planning to replace
closet doors be
sure the old doors and track are removed before tile is laid, or
the floor tile and closet carpet may not line up correctly with
the new door track.
Be sure to discuss how you want the tile laid (square-set
diagonally or with an inset pattern) so
enough tile from one batch is delivered.
Don't fret over grout or mud
splashes on your newly painted walls. They come off a lot quite easily. If you are combining
stone or ceramic tile flooring with carpeting, be sure you
select flooring in a size that works with the scale of your
rooms. Floor tiles come in sizes from six to 18 inches. You also
need to select a grout width and pick a color that will
complement your tile and color scheme.
Refinish the Fireplace. In a previous picture, you saw
where we removed the old brick
hearth and installed new brick to reface the fireplace. This
stone facing is very attractive and can be seen at the Village at Gainey Ranch, Grayhawk
and at
the new Chauncy Ranch shopping center among
many other fine commercial and residential projects throughout
the Valley.
Faux-finished stone was dry-stacked (little, if any, mortar
shows between stones) and flush mounted from floor to ceiling,
lending a relaxed, cozy mood to the living room. This was a
reasonably priced addition to the home that was quickly and
expertly completed in less than one day, adding an appealing
focal point to the room. Several colors, stone finishes and
placement patterns of faux stone are available and will complement any home.
Tile Shower Stalls. Shower pans, toiletry
shelves, shower seats and rims need to be angled so that the
water drains properly. Let your
imagination be your guide in your bathrooms. just remember that
you may have to live with your choice for a long time, so pick a
tile you will enjoy and can work with as your color scheme
changes over the years. |
